Reflective Cuban links can look different with every change in light, camera and surrounding color. A useful finish approval therefore controls the viewing conditions and identifies which physical sample, specification and photographs form the reference. The goal is not to make every angle identical; it is to define a repeatable acceptable result.
Name color without overstating material
Gold tone, silver tone, rose tone and black are appearance descriptions. They do not establish base material or precious-metal content. Keep the finish color field separate from the documented material and process. If a more specific plating or coating claim is used, retain the supporting source for that exact product.
Define the intended texture
Polished, brushed, satin, matte, hammered and faceted surfaces reflect light differently. Identify which areas receive each treatment. A chain may intentionally combine a polished top face with less reflective sides, while a stone-set section may have a different visible surface from the reverse. Use close photographs and plain language to map the zones.
Set up repeatable viewing conditions
- Neutral diffuse light for general comparison
- The main retail or photography light for commercial appearance
- A neutral background and stable camera white balance
- Front, side, reverse, clasp and articulated views
- A labeled physical reference stored away from damaging exposure
Record the date and sample version. A phone photograph without controlled light can be useful for locating an issue, but it should not silently replace the master reference.
Inspect the complete chain
Move the links gently to expose contact areas and recessed gaps. Check for inconsistent tone, cloudy patches, visible base material, burn marks, fingerprints trapped under a coating, sharp transitions and uneven texture. Inspect the terminal links and clasp separately because their geometry and process may differ.
Define acceptable variation
Agree on which differences are normal and which are nonconforming. A verbal instruction such as match the sample is incomplete when the sample itself changes with light. Add annotated photographs, a physical master and any instrumental color method appropriate to the order. State where readings are taken on small or faceted surfaces.
Check neighboring variants together
Place necklace and bracelet versions, multiple lengths and replacement units under the same light. Retailers often display these side by side, making a noticeable color shift more important than when items are viewed separately. Confirm whether mixed components or production batches are expected to match within the agreed range.
Connect approval to photography
Product images should represent the approved color without removing useful surface detail. Keep a neutral reference frame for internal editing, then review the published page on more than one display. Add a concise note that screen and production variation can occur, without using that note to excuse an incorrect image or uncontrolled batch.
Finish approval record
- SKU, option, base material and process statement
- Approved color and texture by surface zone
- Lighting, background and camera reference
- Front, side, reverse, gap and clasp photographs
- Physical master location and approval date
- Accepted variation and inspection method
- Care instructions and customer-facing wording
For process questions, read the plating and PVD guide. Then apply the approved reference during the Cuban chain quality inspection.
