A material word in a product title is not a complete buying specification. Retailers need to know what the piece is made from, what is on its surface, how decorative elements are set and which documents are available for the destination market.
1. Identify the base material
Ask for the metal or non-metal material beneath the visible finish. If a supplier uses a trade name, request the corresponding composition or recognized grade where it matters. Do not translate a style description into a purity or compliance claim without supporting documentation.
2. Describe the complete surface finish
Record color, plating or coating process, texture and any protective layer. If thickness, process control or durability testing is important to the assortment, state the required method and acceptance criteria. A color name such as “gold” describes appearance and does not by itself establish precious-metal content.
3. Confirm stones and setting method
Specify stone type, cut or shape, size range, color tolerance and setting method. For pavé-style or heavily decorated pieces, agree how missing, loose or visibly misaligned stones will be assessed.
4. Request measured dimensions and weight
Dimensions should be tied to a product option and measurement method. Chain length, bracelet circumference, pendant size, post dimensions and clasp clearance can affect fit and packaging. Weight can vary with size and construction, so avoid applying one sample value to every option.
5. Define destination-market requirements
Restricted substances, labeling, product safety and documentation requirements vary by country, region and sales channel. Tell the supplier where and how the item will be sold, then obtain the reports or declarations needed for that use. A general statement such as “safe” or “hypoallergenic” is not a substitute for the evidence required by a specific market.
6. Approve a representative sample
Evaluate the sample in neutral and retail lighting. Check finish consistency, moving parts, edges, stone security, fit, packaging contact points and the instructions a customer will receive. Photograph and label the approved reference.
7. Put tolerances and changes in writing
Bulk production can have normal variation. Define what is acceptable for color, dimensions, weight, stone placement and packaging. Require written approval before material, process or component substitutions.
